We’ve now finished mastering our debut studio album, and are currently getting the artwork prepared etc. In the meantime, here are the eight songs that we have chosen to include on the album. You can listen to all the songs here, and download a WAV version of each track if you wish (see below).
The album was recorded by Julian Tardo at Church Road Studios, Hove, between July 2023 and March 2026. We were interviewed by Andy Morten from Shindig Magazine about the recording process recently. The tracks were essentially recorded live through an analogue desk, and then mixed digitally, with generous amounts of space echo and plate reverb being added once the vocals had been overdubbed. They released an EP from the sessions in 2024, entitled 3, 6, 9, I’ve Got Time, and have just released Down By The Water as a double A-side single.
The Decadent Dayze are Lewis Aslan (Guitar & Vocals), Sean Atkinson (Drums & Vocals), Chris Marks-Billson (Bass) and Tristian O’Brien (Keyboards & Synths). There were joined by special guests Francis Field (Guitar), Roger Johnson (Banjo), Gregg McKella (Clarinet) and Emma V Morton (Vocals) on various songs.
The album kicks off with Nine Maidens, an earnest warning about the perils of dancing on the sabbath, featuring Gregg as “The Piper” and Emma on backing vocals. Many of the stone circles in Britain have associated myths about how they were created as divine punishment for frolicking on a Sunday, with the revellers being petrified, quite literally. Next time you visit a stone circle, stop and listen out for the piper, and be careful that you don’t share his fate…
Moving from stone circles to barrows, Adventures in Avalon recounts the time that Lewis was transported to the Otherworld after entering one of these ancient burial mounds on an ill-fated archaeological survey. When he turned up three days later he claimed that he’d been living in a magical fairyland for sixty years, having a great old time. A likely story indeed !
This Way Please takes its cue from the message that The Golden Dawn shared on their album Power Plant. Love and positivity will always shine through, and sharing your life with kindred souls along the way is definitely a blessing. As George Kinney rightly said, “together we can find a better state of mind”. Can you feel the rhythm of my heart ?
Some of the imagery in Coming Home was inspired by the pages of The Wipers Time, a satirical magazine that was read along the length of the Western Front during the First World War. In a nightmare world filled with nar poo rum, wizz-bangs and Very Lights, a soldier dreams of being at home…
Sean takes over the lead vocals for Baker Boy Blues, with Lewis singing the choruses and Roger adding some banjo to the mix. It’s an epic moody story of revenge, Texas style, featuring a lovely horse and a woman called Marie. It would make a great Serge Leone inspired film, if only we had the budget for it.
Down By The Water is a beguiling tale of love and magic. Early in the morning, a lover invokes the goddess Aurora to provide protection to their far away sweetheart. Lewis and Emma share the vocals on this track, backed by Sean, while Francis provides lead guitar and Tris makes crazy sounds in the background. Will three feathers be enough to smooth those stormy seas ?
Yet another Dayze song to feature numbers, folk-horror fable Six Pebbles tells of divination rituals, magic portals, and an anonymous shape-shifting black cat. To paraphrase a certain famous hobbit, “when you step onto the road, if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to”. Lewis searches for the road home, while Francis adds some extra guitar to this dreamy tune.
As the band close their album, Sit You Down, make yourself comfortable, and float downstream. Chris saves his funkiest bass line to last in this extended ‘trilogy’ of a track. The pathways that you take, decisions that you make, have all been leading straight to this time. Magical Dayze indeed. We hope you’ve enjoyed listening xxx
